mornings

last week i stayed at jesse/tony/grams' pad on queen anne while my car was getting fixed in ballard. it was easier than trying to navigate back to capitol hill on the bus every morning/evening. they live about a mile and a half from my work, so i would get up around 6.30 to walk there in time.

what i found during that week is that walking really chills me out. when i get into my car, all i think about is GO GO GO! STOP TALKING ON YOUR CEL PHONE! USE YOUR BLINKER!

im going to start walking to work from capitol hill once the weather starts getting consistently good.

this may look like a saturn commercial, but its really just a flower i found that morning.

nash bridges

last saturday the sun came out in seattle (not kidding) and i decided to take a walk. i had nowhere inparticular to go, but was curious as to how long it would take for me to walk to my gym on eastlake, as well as my work in ballard. i started at my studio and made my way west down cap hill; i forgot to bring my Elph to snap pics, so had to make due with my cel phone. this photo is from an overpass overlooking I-5 and lake union.

this is from beneath the Aurora bridge.

another picture of the Aurora bridge, taken while i was walking on the Fremont bridge, over the ship canal.

i stopped at gas works park for a minute.

a view of I-5 from the burke gilman trail.

one last shot, taken from the university bridge.

overall, it took me 45 minutes to walk around lake union to my gym, and another 45 to walk to my work from there. according to mapquest, the distance from my house to work is about 4.5 miles, and i took the long way back, through fremont and the U district, up the backside of capitol hill to my place. i walked through about six parks, some small, some big, some of which i never knew existed until i saw them that day. i estimate it to be about a 10 mile walk, and it took about 3.5 hours to complete.

jogging

the weather was nice in seattle today (nice = freezing and overcast but not raining) so i went for a jog today during my lunch break. i work right inbetween the ballard and fremont bridges....the perfect noontime loop to run during the day. the problem is....i suck at running. my knees are shot from the years of abuse i put them through from skateboarding. i went through physical therapy for my knees a few years ago for about six months. it sucked. but ive been stretching and walking alot lately so im working my way up to a full fledged lunchtime run.

i only made it one half length of the loop today....but hopefully by the summer i'll be able to make it the whole way without dying or throwing up.

fish dome

i went to the wing dome the other day with some friends. it had been quite a while since id been there, altho ive lived near all three locations in the seattle area before. when we got there i found i was totally not in the mood for spicy wings, so i opted for the only other non-chicken item on the menu......the breaded beer fish and chips. when my friends asked me what i was going to order, they all gave me a blank stare when i told them my decision. the waitress also gave me an odd look and asked me if thats really what i wanted to eat. after telling me that she couldnt remember the last time anyone ordered the fish, i beckoned her to bring me my meal and be done with it.

well, 20 minutes later i got what i wished for. the absolute worst fish ive ever eaten. the outside of the breaded fish was over-fried but the inside was miraculously undercooked. i was very impressed. i wasnt even halfway done with my food before i realized my stomach was not....right. i felt like i had sucked a glass of oil from an old rag. i spent the rest of the nite with a belly ache and had to put up with my friends mocking me.

my sister used to work at the very same wing dome we went to and she told me that the fish i got was probably from the same frozen box that was stuffed away in the freezer that was there when she was there months ago. awesome....!

sun-day

nathan and i went to catch a movie in queen anne the other day. complications arose and we ended up having two hours to kill before the start of the film so we decided to walk up the hill to kerry park, one of my favorite places to see the city.

we walked around the top of queen anne and got jamba juices. the neighborhood has changed alot in the last five years....more big name stores like blockbuster and several banks have popped up. my friend matt's old apartment was totally redone and is now a store front of some sort. the gas station across from the safeway was now undergoing construction to become condo's. Gordito's and Pete's Calzones, two of my favorite places to eat in the city closed their locations on queen anne.

this picture was taken with nathan's cel phone; it turned out alot better than i imagined it would. the clouds in the background are typical for seattle.

Fast: day 30

this is the last day of my fast. so far all day ive only taken in water and diluted hand squeezed orange juice. the juice that is in the carton at the stores is pasteurized, heating the liquid for the purpose of destroying viruses and harmful organisms like bacteria, molds, and yeast. having been on a fast for so long, my body needs to replenish the beneficial bacteria that have been flushed from my system, that i now need for digestion.

my stomach seems to be handling it pretty well. it tastes good to have something in me besides just lemonade. last nite i made a vegetable soup in my crockpot; it made my apartment smell fantastic. tonite im drinking a little broth, and tommorrow, depending, i may eat the veggies themselves.

midlake

i caught the Midlake show at the Croc last nite with my brother and some friends. having two full albums and one EP, this band has taken up more time in my cd player than any other in recent memory. Even though "The Trials of Van Occupanther" came out last year, they are still touring for it, and i, for one, am grateful. my favorite band of 2007.

Fast: day 29

ive decided to end my fast tommorrow; that would make it four weeks (30 days) since i ate any food. looking back...it was alot harder than the first ten day fast i did a year ago. there were whole weeks where i would be fine....then out of the blue i'd crave sweets or pizza for several days. the mood swings were odd as well. but throughout, i always had a ton of energy.

i plan on doing another cleanse in a couple months, and i may try a liver flush. i wont go into detail here, but theres lots of stuff in your liver that shouldnt be there.

i originally wanted to go 40 days on this fast (i sooo wanted to be like Moses), but my niece is having a birthday party sunday and my mom will be there. she didnt like me fasting last year, so im quitting early this time so she doesnt worry. im fine! hrmph!
